Breastfeeding and newborn nutrition
For you and your baby

Personalised nutrition guidance to help you care for yourself while feeding your newborn, and to navigate common challenges like cow’s milk protein allergy or preparing your baby for weaning. We’ll focus on supporting your energy, meeting your nutrient needs, and making feeding a positive, confident experience.

Why nutrition matters for breastfeeding and newborn feeding

Nourishment for you and your baby

Whether you’re exclusively breastfeeding, combination feeding, or expressing – what you eat can influence your own health, recovery, and energy, as well as the nutrients passed on through your milk.

Breastfeeding increases your body’s need for energy, fluids, and key nutrients like iodine, calcium, and omega–3s. Meeting these needs helps support milk production, your immune system, and your overall wellbeing, while also giving your baby a strong nutritional foundation in those early months.

If your baby has feeding challenges – from colic to suspected cow’s milk protein allergy – or you’re preparing to start solids, having a clear, personalised plan takes away the guesswork. Together, we’ll focus on strategies that keep both you and your baby well–nourished, comfortable, and supported.

Working together

Every breastfeeding journey is different – and so is my approach. Whether you’re in the early weeks, facing a feeding challenge, or preparing your baby for solids, we’ll create a plan that meets you where you’re at and adapts as your needs change.

We’ll start with a one-on-one consultation (online or in-person), where I’ll learn more about you and your baby – your health history, feeding experience so far, current habits, symptoms, preferences, and any medical guidance you’ve been given. From there, I’ll create a personalised plan that’s both evidence-based and realistic for your lifestyle.

Throughout our work together, I’ll be here to guide you with check-ins, updates, and adjustments. This could include meal ideas to support your own nutrition, safe elimination diets (if needed for suspected allergies), symptom support, and guidance for introducing solids – always in line with safe, evidence-based practice.

Value of personalised dietary guidance

Your needs – and your baby’s – change throughout the first year, and so do the challenges you face. Personalised support means you can focus on the right things at the right time, with clear, evidence-based steps that work for you and your lifestyle.

Early weeks – Establishing supply & recovery

The early weeks are about more than just feeding your baby – your body is also recovering from pregnancy and birth. Breastfeeding increases your energy needs by around 450–500 calories per day, and demand for nutrients like iodine, calcium, and omega–3s is higher than at any other stage of life.

When we work together, you’ll learn exactly which foods help replenish nutrient stores and support milk supply, and how to build meals that work with your recovery. You’ll receive:

  • Tailored meal plans with quick, one-handed meal and snack ideas

  • Recipe suggestions designed to boost key nutrients

  • Hydration strategies that fit into your feeding schedule

  • Practical ways to stock your fridge/freezer so food is ready when you need it

Ongoing feeding – Managing challenges

Once feeding is established, other issues can arise. Around 10–15% of breastfed babies show signs of cow’s milk protein allergy, while others may experience reflux, colic, or digestive discomfort. For parents, it can be stressful and exhausting to figure out whether food could be a trigger.

I’ll guide you through safe, balanced elimination diets (when needed) and help you track symptoms so you can make changes with confidence. You’ll receive:

  • A safe elimination diet plan that protects your nutrition

  • Alternative food and recipe suggestions so meals still feel satisfying

  • A symptom tracking system to monitor both your health and your baby’s comfort

  • Support to reintroduce foods safely when it’s time

Transition to solids – Meeting both your needs

Introducing solids is a big milestone – for your baby and for you. While learning to prepare safe, nutritious foods for your baby, it’s easy for your own meals to slip down the priority list.

I’ll help you maintain a balanced diet for yourself while creating family-friendly meals your baby can enjoy too. You’ll receive:

  • A first-foods plan that meets your baby’s developmental needs

  • Recipes that work for both adults and babies

  • Tips for balancing your plate while preparing your baby’s meals

  • Guidance on iron-rich and nutrient-dense first foods for your baby

FAQs

Can you work alongside my midwife, GP, or lactation consultant?

Yes – I often collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure your nutrition plan supports any medical advice or treatment.

Can you give me recipes that work for the whole family?

Yes – I’ll suggest meals that are easy to adapt for adults, older children, and your baby as they start solids, so you’re not cooking multiple meals.

Do you only help with breastfeeding, or formula feeding too?

I can support both – including combination feeding – and help you make sure your own nutrition stays balanced and your baby’s needs are met.
